Dr. Joanne Balkaran is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon with over 16 years of experience. She is certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in both Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery and is a Certified Wound Specialist. Dr. Balkaran is also a Diplomate in Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Microsurgical Orthoplastic Society.
Her clinical expertise includes minimally invasive surgery, regenerative medicine, peripheral nerve surgery, and complex limb salvage. She practices at the Ankle & Foot Center of Central Florida in Tavares, Florida.
Born in Toronto, Canada, and raised in Trinidad, Dr. Balkaran proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces prior to medical school. She earned her DPM and MS degrees from Barry University and completed advanced training in external fixation in Milan, Italy, and peripheral nerve surgery in Chicago. She currently serves as an AMIFAS board member, is an ABFAS item writer, and co-chair to Blood Cancer United as well as published journal research.
